Looking for a new job as we start a new year? The last year was undoubtedly a tough one for many job seekers and employers, but even in tough markets, the best tips for finding work are the same. Here are some of those tips for job seekers heading into 2023:

Update your resume and online profiles

Make sure that your resume and online profiles, such as on LinkedIn, accurately reflect your skills, experience, and achievements. Old or outdated information can really hold your career progression back. Make sure you head into the new year with your best foot forward.

Network

Reach out to your professional network and let them know you’re looking for a job. Attend industry events and join professional organizations to make connections and learn about new opportunities. Your professional network is actually one of your most important job search channels, as much today as 20 years ago.

Use job search engines

There are many online job search engines that can help you find job openings, such as Indeed, Monster, and LinkedIn Jobs, etc. But know that this will only get you started. Many candidates are likely using similar strategies to find work, so you are likely to be up against some stiff competition.

Tailor your job search

Don’t just apply to any job you see. Take the time to research the company and the position, and tailor your application to show why you’re a good fit. Being thoughtful when you are looking for work will help you find the work that is right for you in the long term.

Be open to different job types

Don’t limit yourself to full-time positions. Part-time, freelance, and temporary jobs can also be good options, especially if you’re just starting out or looking for a change.

Consider working with a staffing firm

A staffing firm can help you find temporary or permanent job opportunities that match your skills and experience. They can also offer guidance on your job search and help you prepare for interviews. The recruiting team at ESGI are trained to help qualified candidates find the right job to meet their needs as well as the needs of our clients.

Stay positive and persistent

It’s normal to get discouraged during a job search, but it’s important to stay positive and persistent. Keep applying, networking, and learning new skills to increase your chances of finding the right job. Stick with it and don’t expect the right job to fall into your lap. You have to go out and get it.
